Tomatin reveals limited-edition Portuguese Collection

Tomatin is showing off a range of Portuguese wine casks in its new series

17 October 2022

Tomatin has announced the release of a limited-edition series of whiskies inspired by the wines of Portugal.

The Portuguese Collection comprises three expressions: The Port Edition, The Madeira Edition, and the Moscatel Edition. All distilled in September 2006, the whiskies were initially laid down in oak casks before being moved into a tawny port, Madeira, and Moscatel de Setúbal casks in 2015 for a further seven years' maturation.

Scott Adamson, Tomatin blender and global brand ambassador, said: "We are thrilled to bring to market this exclusive collection. Portugal has a great tradition of winemaking and is particularly well renowned for its characterful fortified wines. We wanted to take some of that incredible aroma, taste and mouthfeel and combine it with the unique flavours of Tomatin to create something outstanding [and] worthy of the gifting season and special occasions."

He added, "With Tomatin’s Portuguese Collection, we have created something that transcends borders – combining two cultures and two palates together to create something very special indeed."

Tastings notes supplied by the distillery say to expect fruity and spiced notes of Black Forest gateau in The Port Edition; notes of marmalade, ginger and salted caramel in The Moscatel Edition; and sweet notes of butterscotch, honey and stewed apples in The Madeira Edition.

The Portuguese Collection is available to buy from tomatin.com and specialist retailers worldwide, priced from GB£90.

Tomatin already utilises Portuguese wine casks in its core collection: its 14 Years Old whisky is matured in a combination of tawny port casks and bourbon barrels.
