The Tomintoul Peaty Tang 16 Years Old single malt whisky has been chosen by the federation to release exclusively to its members. The new expression, a heavily peated version of Tomintoul's classic whisky, is the oldest Peaty Tang ever released.
The popularity of previous Tomintoul Peaty Tang expressions in Sweden prompted the country's whisky federation to select the smoky dram for an exclusive members release.
Bottled at 46% ABV, the 16 Years Old has been distilled with heavily peated malted barley using peat from the Scottish Highlands, which lends a heathery smokiness to the sweet Tomintoul whisky.
Tasting notes supplied by Tomintoul say the whisky has an intense nose with aromas of apple, caramelised orange, liquorice and honey, a chewy palate with burnt sugar, damp peat, white pepper, molasses and tar smokiness, and a peppery, malty finish with notes of marzipan, fireside smoke and liquorice.
While this limited-edition whisky is only available for members of whisky clubs within the Swedish Whisky Federation, the original Peaty Tang expression is available at Systembolaget stores throughout Sweden.
