Independent whisky blending house Turntable Spirits has announced the launch of two limited-edition blends to coincide with the celebration of its first anniversary.
The Scottish company's fourth and fifth Turntable releases continue its tradition of bringing musical history into its blends, taking inspiration from new-wave rock band Blondie and French electronic music pioneers Daft Punk.
Turntable 4 — One Way or Another is a blend of 78 per cent grain and 22 per cent malt spirit, including first-fill bourbon barrels from Strathclyde and ex-red wine casks from Invergordon.
Turntable 5 — Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger includes spirit from Dalmunach first-fill bourbon barrels and Tamdhu first-fill oloroso sherry butts in its mix and is bottled at cask strength of 59.1% ABV.
“Track 4 was born from our fascination with vintage grain casks and our continued commitment to push the boundaries of blended whisky,” says Ally Stevenson, Turntable co-founder and blender. “What we really wanted to do was produce a blend that was distinctively complex yet strikingly balanced. With its notes of salted caramel and warm banana, I think we’ve achieved that.”
“With Track 5, our aim was to produce an extremely powerful yet well-balanced whisky,” adds co-founder Gordon Stevenson.
Turntable 4 and Turntable 5 will be available to purchase online and in story from select retailers, priced at £69 and £73.50 respectively. Approximately 2,000 bottles of each will be available.
The releases come as Turntable celebrates its first anniversary, which it is marking with an event at Glasgow's Haberdashery on 31 May.
Since launching in April 2023, the company has launched its first three numbered Turntable releases as well as a core range of blended Scotch whiskies: Paradise Funk (using liquids matured in Cognac, bourbon, and chinquapin oak casks), Smokin’ Riff (featuring about 25 per cent peated spirit and casks including Pedro Ximénez puncheons and red wine casks), and Bittersweet Symphony (made with spirit aged in new oak, oloroso, and Pedro Ximénez casks). For each blend, Turntable provides a detailed breakdown of the spirits that went into it.
