Wemyss Malts has created its first ever single malt whisky using multiple casks of Bunnahabhain whisky. The name Untold Riches was chosen by the Edinburgh-based independent bottler after the aromas and flavour profiles discovered within the bottle.
The single malt casks from Islay’s Bunnahabhain Distillery have been maturing for the past 28 years, before coming together to create this limited-edition release. Wemyss Malts specialises in producing small batch, hand crafted blended malt Scotch whiskies, and in addition to these also releases several single cask single malt whiskies each year.
With the release of Untold Riches, Wemyss Malts has utilised the repertoire of its blending team to craft its first single malt. The Islay single malt has combined the team’s skillset and experience in careful cask selection and the considered art of blending.
To create this malty-sweet Islay whisky, Wemyss Malts blenders carefully selected 31 hogshead and sherry butt casks from several parcels of decade’s old, unpeated Bunnahabhain to blend into a single malt with a depth of untold riches.
The result of this new exploration for the brand is a whisky full to the brim with cereal rich and dried fruit flavours, at 49.1% ABV.
Untold Riches is available from wemyssmalts.com, and from independent spirits retailers in the UK, Europe and Asia in February 2020. The whisky comes in a 70cl bottle and gift box with a suggested SRP of £149.95.
