The sale of the Famous Grouse and Naked Malt brands has been completed. The plans were announced in September 2024, when former owner Edrington confirmed through its subsidiary the 1887 Company that it had reached an agreement with William Grant & Sons.

At the time, Edrington, which owns the Macallan, Highland Park, and the Glenrothes among other brands, said the move would allow it to increase its focus on ultra-premium spirits.

Blended Scotch the Famous Grouse and blended malt Naked Malt now join William Grant & Sons' portfolio of spirits, which includes Glenfiddich, the Balvenie, and Monkey Shoulder.

Søren Hagh, chief executive officer of Willian Grant & Sons, commented: “I am delighted to complete this acquisition and welcome the Famous Grouse into our portfolio. It is a remarkable Scottish brand with rich history and a strong market position in a number of countries. Over the coming years, we will build on this strong foundation and work to evolve the brand into a true global icon.

“We also see a lot of potential in Naked Malt, which will be a great addition to our portfolio. Together, these brands perfectly complement our vision for growth, and we look forward to investing in their future and sharing their stories with whisky lovers around the world.”

William Grant & Sons has appointed a dedicated team to "ensure a smooth transition" for the brands into its portfolio which it says will provide continuity for customers.
