The first distillery to use the name 'Banff', was built in 1824, however it is perhaps known best for the second manifestation in 1863, founded by James Simpson Jr., that came out of the original. This had easier access to rail transport and a better water source.
Despite suffering a bad fire in 1877, Banff distillery was reopened and producing whisky later that year. In 1921, Simpson's family
sold a portion of the company to Mile End Distillery Company. In 1932, Distillers Company bought the entire distillery for £50,000 and production stopped immediately.
Following destruction during World Way Two, renovation began with the intention of resuming production at the distillery, however a further fire destroyed part of the distillery again.
Production ceased in 1983.Show more
