John Innes founded Benrinnes Distillery, initially under the name Lyne of Ruthrie, in 1835, following a flood at the distillery previously located at the site.
The distillery was sold to a William Smith, who changed its name to Benrinnes. In 1992 Benrinnes Distillery was sold to John Dewar & Sons, who modernised and expanded. In 1974 Benrinnes Distillery changed its distillation process
to a partial triple distillation, although this was abandoned in 2007, when it began employing a more conventional process, with two wash stills and four spirit stills.Show more
