Benromach Distillery was founded by Duncan MacCallum and F.W. Brickmann in 1898. MacCallum has previously worked at Glen Nevis Distillery and Brickmann had been a spirit broker in Leith.
Despite being constructed in 1898, production did not begin until 1900.
Today Benromach Distillery is owned by Gordon and MacPhail.
Between 1911 and 1983 Benromach Distillery changed hands
on numerous occasions and ceased production in 1983. In 1993 Gordon and MacPhail took over the site and in 1997 the restored the distillery to working order. The design of the distillery was altered to allow it to be operated by one man.
In 1998 Benromach Distillery was reopened by Charles, Prince of Wales, and bottling of the new malt started in 2004.
Today the public can take a number of tours around the distillery.Show more
