Built in 1881, the name Bunnahabhain comes from the Gaelic for 'mouth of the river'. Bunnahabhain Distillery is known for producing whisky used for The Famous Grouse and Black Bottle blends. Because the water is filtered by limestone and arrives at the distillery through pipelines, via which it doesn't pick up peat, Bunnahbhain Distillery is known for producing milder whiskies than its Islay counterparts.
Today, the distillery is owned by Burn Stewart, part of the South African spirits group Distell.
Distillery tours are available to the public throughout the year.Show more
