Hiram Walker founded what would become Canadian Club in 1858, with the first distillery established in Walkerville, Ontario, because of the quality of the local grain.
The whisky produced at the Canadian Club Distillery became popular in America and known as 'Club Whisky'. With the US Government requiring all Canadian distillers to put the country of origin on their label, the product became
known as Canadian Club.
The Walker distillery remains in production and is today part of the Beam Suntory portfolio.
