Clynelish Distillery was founded in 1819 by the Marquiss of Stafford, who later became the Duke of Sutherland. In 1967, a build commenced on a new distillery, also named Clynelish, located just across the road from the original building. Confusingly Clynelish's original building became Brora Distillery and was active between 1969-1983. The buildings that made up the Brora distillery are now
used by the new Clynelish distillery as a visitor centre and warehouse. Owned by Diageo, Clynelish remains active with a large capacity of 4.2m litres per annum. A large proportion of the spirit used in Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve comes from this distillery.Show more
