Glenora Distillers is one of four single malt Scottish-style distilleries in Canada, and has been recognised as the first single malt whisky distillery in North America.
It was founded in 1990 by Brude Jardine with direction from Bowmore distillers. In 1994 the distillery was sold to the current owners.
Glenora is located in Nova Scotia, a province whose name literally translates
to ‘New Scotland.’ Folk here are proud of their Scottish ancestry, but the use of the word 'Glen' in the name, which is almost exclusively used on Scotch Whisky labels, has been the subject of a trademark suit filed by the Scotch Whisky Association. (It was eventually thrown out by the Supreme Court of Canana in 2009).
