Founded in 1875, Glenglassaugh had a rather an unfortunate stop-and-start career in the 20th century. The original owners were Glenglassaugh Distillery Co., however the distillery was sold in 1892 and snapped up by Highland Distillers Co, a partnership founded by Wm Grant's and the Robertson family. In 1907 Glenglassaugh fell silent and remained closed until 1931. After a five-year
burst of activity, it was closed again from 1936-1960. Before reopening again, Glenglassaugh was completely overhauled and re-equipped, and production continuted until 1986 when it was forced to close AGAIN. The distillery sat silent for over 20 years until it was purchased by Dutch based Scaent group, and production started again in December 2008. In 2013, the BenRiach Distillery Company took over Glenglassaugh distillery with the intention to bring this iconic distillery fully back to life by giving it the investment, commitment and care it deserves.
This formerly moribund distillery has been transformed, picking up awards all over the place for an innovative range of whiskies including old vintages and non-aged expressions.Show more
