The most northerly distillery in Scotland, Highland Park distillery was unofficially founded in 1798, although it didn't obtain a license to distil whisky until 1826. It was bought by Highland Distillers in 1937, and later became part of The Edrington Group.
This extremely remote distillery has carved out a very respectable name for itself. Legendary whisky writer Michael Jackson called
it "The greatest all-rounder in the world of malt whisky." It is also one of the few distilleries to malt (some) of its own barley. The traditional floor maltings, smokng peat fires and five star visitor centre make this a popular destination for whisky tourists.
There are an impessive range of official bottlings which run from 12 all the way up to 50 years old, as well as many specialist and independent bottlings. Highland Park single malt is also one of the ingredients of The Famous Grouse blend.
