The Stitzel-Weller distillery was opened by the Van Winkle family in 1935, and owned it until 1972. It closed in 1991, when Diageo moved production to the Bernheim Distillery in Louisville. Since 2002, the Van Winkle brands have been distilled and bottled by the Sazerac Company at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankwort, Kentucky.
In 2014 Diageo unveiled a new visitor centre
at the site called the Bulleit Frontier Whiskey Experience, which will take visitors’ through the history and creation of the group’s Bulleit Bourbon. Additional renovations were also announced, including the construction of a new bottling line, an on-site finishing center and a small batch craft still.Show more
