Also known as the Early Times Distillery, this distillery in Shively Kentucky was built in the 1930s and originally known as Old Kentucky Distillery. Early Times whiskey has been made here by Brown-Forman since 1940. The Early Times brand, on the other hand, was founded in 1860 by Jack Beam (uncle of Jim) and has belonged to Brown-Forman since 1923 when the company bought the original distillery near
Bardstown and all its stock during Prohibition.
In 1955 Brown-Forman completely overhauled and modernized the plant, and in 1979 they closed their Old Forester distillery in Louisville, moving production of Old Forester bourbon to the Shively distillery. In 2017, production of Old Forester will be moved to a $45 million dollar state-of-the art facility in the heart of Downtown Louisville.Show more
