An historic distillery situated on the edge of the Balmoral estate, the Scottish country home of the Royal family. Royal Lochnagar was awarded its royal prefix in 1848 - following a visit and tasting by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
The first licensed Lochnagar distillery was established in 1826 by a former illicit distiller. It was promptly burnt down by smugglers, and rebuilt in 1845
by John Begg on the south bank of the river; he renamed it New Lochnagar. It is a tiny distillery, the smallest in the Diageo portfolio. Much of its whisky is released as single malt, although it is also a key component of high-end blended whiskies, such as Johnnie Walker Blue Label.Show more
