Strathisla distillery is the oldest distillery in the Highlands. It was founded as the Milltown Distillery by George Taylor and Alexander Milne in 1786, the name Strathisla was given to the spirit and was applied to the distillery proper by 1870, at which time it was owned by William Longmore. In 1879, the distillery suffered terribly from a fire, but was rebuilt with a bottling plant. The name changed
back again to Milltown in about 1890. Bought in 1940 by Jay Pomeroy, a fraudulent financier who went to prison, when it was snapped up by Chivas Bros - who promptly changed the name back again to Strathisla. Since this time, Strathisla has been a key ingredient of Chivas Regal, and the visitor centre at the distillery is called The Home of Chivas Regal.
Pernod Ricard acquired Strathisla, along with the rest of the Chivas brands, in 2001 when they divvied up the spoils of the Seagram's takeover with Diageo.Show more
