Brora

Brora Distillery (Closed 1983)

Brora was built in 1819 by the Marquess of Stafford, although it was originally known as Clynelish. During a shortage of Islay whisky between 1969 and 1973, Brora was known for producing a heavily peated whisky, often used for blending. Between 1973 and 1983, the whisky produced at Brora had adopted the more traditional, lightly peated, Highland style. In 1983, production at Brora stopped.
