Alternative fuel
Regarding the article in WM 90 by Dave Broom on whisky as fuel. My theory on rocket fuel. The whisky required to fuel a rocket would have to be something different.
As a start you would require more than just a cask strength whisky. We would need those Irish to triple distill their whiskey, and not bring the ABV level down before maturation, resulting in for example Jamesons double strength reserve bottling.
Secondly we would definitely need Islay to bring us the peat we require, think Ardbeg Supernova, or even Octomore. This will ensure we get the power to take off at anytime.
We would also require some extra fruity esters in the fuel to get a bit more burning power. For this I would think in the direction of the Macallan or even Glenmorangie.
Since fuel is not really light in colour, we might need some sherry/port or dark rum cask finishes like the Benriach, Glendronach or even from the Dalmore bottlings.
All this together should give us the power required to fuel a rocket.
The only problem is that you might end up with 50 of the luckiest engineers/whisky enthusiasts, and no fuel left to power that rocket.
I myself would certainly want to leave my day job and yet again relive my childhood fantasy of becoming an astronaut.

Packaging correction
Having read the latest edition of Whisky Magazine (which incidentally I always enjoy), I noticed that in an interview with Francis Rossi, WM asked whether he designed the new bottle, to which Francis replies “yeah, it was between me and the manager”.
I’d like to point out that for the record, Pocket Rocket Creative conceived and created the entire Glen Rossie packaging from start to finish (not Francis or the manager), and whilst WM have no control over responses gained from interviews, I thought it was pertinent to correct this error.
I’m certain that if someone were to claim to have written a song by Francis Rossi, he would almost certainly have issues with that.
