Bunnahabhain has unveiled a brand-new bottling to celebrate this year’s Bunnahabhain Day at the 2022 Fèis Ìle, an announcement which is claimed to have caught many by surprise.
Limited to just 286 bottles, this 1989 oloroso cask finish is an unpeated single malt, and available exclusively at the distillery brand home and website. The bottling is said to be indistinguishably in the style of Bunnahabhain, while the liquid itself is described as a russet gold colour. Having matured firstly in whisky refill casks back in December 1989, the liquid was then finished for dix years in oloro sherry casks.
The producer has described the drink as having aromas of oak, walnut and dried cherries, a flavour of pears in syrup, black pepper, and red apple, finished with a rich, smooth, and long finish. The 1989 has an ABV of 45.4% and an RRP of £750.The announcement comes in addition to three other limited-edition Fèis single malts which were unveiled by the Islay distillery.
This year’s Fèis Ìle marked the return of the festival in-person for the first time since 2019, so many distilleries made it their mission to make grand announcements during this period in order to commemorate the occasion and the return to somewhat normality.
