Scotland's Lagg Distillery has unveiled its first core-range single malts.

The distillery on the Isle of Arran opened in 2019 and is focused on creating peated single malt, which its says is more authentic to the type of spirit that would have been produced on the island by illicit distillers in centuries past.

Its first core single malts are set to be released from May, following the success of its inaugural single malt release in autumn last year.

First to be released will be the Lagg Kilmory Edition, named after the parish in which the village of Lagg is located. Pitched as the flagship single malt in Lagg's range and the benchmark for its house style, the Kilmory Edition will be matured fully and exclusively in first-fill bourbon barrels and bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration and with natural colour.

It will be followed by Lagg Corriecravie Edition, which takes its name from a coastal hamlet close to the village of Lagg. This single malt is initially matured in ex-bourbon barrels before being finished for around six months in oloroso sherry hogsheads sourced directly from family-owned bodega José y Miguel Martin in Jerez, Spain. The Corriecravie Edition is bottled at 55% ABV, also without chill filtration or added colour.

Lagg's distillery manager Graham Omand said: "The Kilmory expression embodies the ‘house style of Lagg’ which centres around the use of bourbon barrels with our peated spirit. The Corriecravie provides a real contrast, showing off a different side to the Lagg spirit, bringing to the fore notes of sweeter smoke, spices and rich fruits.

"These single malts are really rooted in the south side of Arran and their aromatic peated character embodies the earthiness of the whiskies that would have been among the first to have been distilled on Arran hundreds of years ago. Today our Lagg single malts represent the spirit and respect for our land that the people here can’t wait to share with the wider world."

Lagg Kilmory Edition will be available from May 2023 (RRP £49.99), and the Corriecravie Edition will be available from June 2023 (RRP £64.99). Both will be available to purchase from and specialist whisky retailers.
