Isle of Arran Distillers has announced the launch of its Inaugural Limited Edition Single Malt from Lagg Distillery
– a new heavily peated whisky distillery.
The single malt will be available from August 2022 in three separate limited-edition batches. All three are bottled at 50%, but their maturation has been varied: one is ex-bourbon cask; one is ex-red wine charred cask; the last is ex-oloroso sherry cask.
Lagg Distillery, located on the southern tip of the Isle of Arran, was completed in 2019, where doors opened to visitors. Lagg has set its primary target to produce a top-quality single malt, while supporting local projects focused on preserving peatlands. The concern for peatlands and the need for its preservation is said to be a result of the damage caused by global warming, impacted by drainage for agriculture, forestry and resource extraction.

Graham Omand has been appointed as manager of the distillery, who worked as a stillman previously at Arran’s Lochranza Distillery for several years building knowledge and experience at the North end of the island before overseeing the construction and leading a new team further south. Omand will oversee the creation of the Lagg Single Malt and is said to be ensuring its of the highest quality.
Omand said on the release: “It’s every stillman’s dream to be given such an amazing opportunity to manage a beautiful site like Lagg. I am going to make sure it’s a legacy that I’ll be proud to say I helped build. We are delighted to finally announce the very first inaugural Single Malt release from Lagg.”
