Tasting notes

Taster Sophie Donovan

Nose: Rich chocolate, a little rubber, germaline. Freshly polished furniture, leather, saddles. Then fresh sea-air, a minerally note, pebbles brought home from the beach, moss, with smoke and peat coming through.
Palate: Quite hot and spicy at first. A bit salty. Then lots of dark fruit, cherries, rich fruit cake. Smooth but strong peaty notes. Bonfires and Lapsong Souchong tea.
Finish: Long and lingering, comes and goes in waves.
Comment: Another stunner from Ardbeg.

Taster Rob Allanson

Nose: Huge peat, phenolic hit, cooling coal embers. Barbecued pork with sweet chilli sauce, clove cigarettes, damp wool, compost. Water brings more floral notes and scented soap.
Palate: Smoked almonds, there is sweetness too, fresh orange juice and lemonzest. Then the peat takes hold. The sweetness is amplified with water.
Finish: Big, spicy and peaty at the end.
Comment: Like walking into a cottage where a roast is cooking and a peat fire is burning low.
