Tasting notes
Taster   Dave Broom
Nose: Clearly old. Reduced into thick toffee, heathery smoke then stewing quince, rum-soaked sultana and mixed peels. Then it starts to lighten, becoming sumptuously elegant.
Palate: Gentle, sweet start with good layered complexity. Barley sugar, oak, peat, tinned apricot this time.
Finish: The fruit rises gently once more. Long and lightly smoky.
Comment: Superb balance. Classic distillery character retained after four decades- no mean achievement.
9.3
Taster   Martine Nouet
Nose: Intense, complex, elegant. Damp warehouse; Lots of 'antique'
Palate: Rich, all flavours so well melted. Exotic fruit. A seaweedy note..
Finish: Dry, gently spicy, with a hint of tar and marzipan.
Comment: A superb dram but given the price...
