Tasting notes

Taster Laura Foster

Nose: Nose prickle from the ABV. Sharp, sour tangerine, raspberry and star fruit, plus lots of spice – rye bread and anise in particular – then pecan pie.
Palate: Plasticky mouthfeel. Sour fruits give way to tropical fresh banana. Distinctly spiky, hot, numbing spice attacks on the mid-palate, sour pickled gherkin tempers it, then warm toffee sauce is drizzled on vanilla ice cream.
Finish: A big bowl of banana custard.
Comment: Big, ballsy and unapologetic. Water struggled to temper this beast.

Taster Mark Newton

Nose: A lovely depth to this. Morello cherries, with intensely expressed dried fruits: figs and prunes. Then blackberry jam. Pine needles add a fresh zing.
Palate: Dry and tannic, but not aggressively so for the strength. Sour cherries, peppermint, caramel. Gamey in places; and elderberry tartness. Water ramps up the fruit significantly.
Finish: Short, with fennel, cloves, and sour cherries once more. The shortness is a shame.
Comment: A fine Bourbon, though uncomplicated. I’d say easy-drinking, but only with a drop of water!
