Tasting notes
Taster   Laura Foster
Nose: Hello fruit cake. Brazil nuts, walnuts, crunchy red fruits – especially cranberry – nutmeg, powdered ginger, orange peel, demerara sugar. Some wood polish for good measure.
Palate: Yum. I’m simultaneously eating delicious fruitcake with red fruit and licking a well-polished sideboard. Delicious sweet spices.
Finish: Dark chocolate run through with orange.
Comment: I’m presuming this is European oak. Stands out in the sea of American oak in this issue, but also brilliant in its own right.

Taster   Mark Newton
Nose: Hoisin sauce, plum jam and balsamic vinegar. Fig rolls dunked in cola. Blackberries and slight notes of bitter chocolate and coffee. Raspberry coulis. Molasses. Heady stuff.
Palate: Astonishingly cloying, yet not too tannic. Blackcurrants, dried figs, raisins, nutmeg and almond oil. Tiramisu. Molasses with dark chocolate, chicory and prunes. The mind drifts to Bordeaux…
Finish: Long, intense, oily. Just the right side of musty.
Comment: The last whisky of the night. Hello darkness my old friend…
