Tasting notes
Taster   Dave Broom
Nose: Whisky rancio to the fore: mints, furniture polish, and a powdery fragrance and behind some sooty smoke. Ethereal. Needs time to open.
Palate: Mature, but has intensity, a lively prickle. Slightly feral, nutty, and elegant. Do not water.
Finish: Short and ever so slightly smoky.
Comment: 1948? Amazing. Has retained a refined almost raffish air and though frail is not overwooded.
8.5
Taster   Arthur Motley
Nose: Musty boxes, and a luxurious and rich explosion of fruits. Undercurrents of varnish and a chestnut nuttiness too.
Palate: Tinned peaches, apricots and dark chocolate. This complexity is spanked into touch with a lot of wood character, and a little creosote.
Finish: Bitter woodiness and star anise spice.
Comment: A little too drying and old on the palate for me, but that bouquet was absolutely stunning.
