Tasting notes

Taster Chris Goodrum

Nose: Aromatic, sweet corn and enormous herbal rye and coffeed rye go head to head with chunky oak. Praline and cream appear but the focus is on the herbal rye.
Palate: Oily with herbal rye and lightly toasted wheat flakes, bran and treacle. Again the oak is pretty dense but it sits beneath, displays a harder, grittier and more tannic character.
Finish: Reasonable length with plenty of herbal notes. Finally a little creamy oak and corn comes through but it’s quite a dry finish.
Comment: Entertaining but it just lacks some sweetness to balance the alcohol and rye.

Nose: Nose: A strong nose of treacle, liquorice, and pipe tobacco, followed by dry biscuit, oatcakes, and damp wool. Underlying, intense fruitiness that reminded me of red vermouth.
Palate: Savoury, with good, solid notes of grain, black pepper, dry wine, and dark chocolate. Rich tobacco notes, it wasn’t as overpowering as the nose suggested.
Finish: A dry flavour, reminiscent of paper, accompanied by a lingering warmth.
Comment: This whisky, especially the nose, really paints a picture and brings back memories. One to take on country walks.
