Tasting notes
Taster   Jim Murray
Nose: Stunning honey depth with a touch of mint and eucalyptus adding oaky firmness. Rare and glorious balance for is age.
Palate: A big honey-oak arrival that is waxy and chewy but filters out into more controlled spice.
Finish: A bitter-sweet honeyed saltiness, then thumping arrival of malt and oak in tandem.
Comment: This is big, bruising, uncompromising whisky of very high class.
8.5
Taster   Michael Jackson
Nose: Light, fresh, fragrant, peat-smoke. Very attractive.
Palate: Firm, biscuity maltiness. Some barley sugar sweetness, developing suggestions of butter. A hint of black treacle. Some sherry.
Finish: Cereal grain oily dryness. Oat-like flavours. Sappy, smoky.
Comment: A welcome bottling of this neglected malt, and an interesting example.
