Tasting notes
Taster   Rob Allanson
Nose: Spirity at first, estery with a little damp wool. Then sweetness, Kendal Mint cake, but the brown sugar variety. Then an earthy, damp oak note develops slowly and becomes, sawn wood, fresh oak and open refill casks.
Palate: Cream éclair buns, dark chocolate and chilli spice, then the oak comes in. A little farm yard note, malty.
Finish: Sweet with just a gentle hint of smoke, then creamy and zesty – lemon custard.
Comment: Dominated by the oak and the spice notes get a little lost. A drop of water sweetens things up nicely.
8.2
Taster   Sam Coyne
Nose: Faint hit of TCP and first-aid kits, followed by a light fudgey sweetness.
Palate: Smokier than the nose, but also sweet and satisfying. A little oak grip takes hold before the smoke parts and it becomes vegetative. Chipotle paste.
Finish: The smoke loiters, but without much intent. That faint vegetative note remains.
Comment: Not quite my cup of tea, but it's well balanced in what it does offer and easy-going.
