Tasting notes

Taster Mark Newton

Nose: This isn’t shy! Ash with linseed oil. Baked bananas and mango. Dried apricot and mixed peel. WD40. Feints that compliment, green tea, tobacco, leather and buttermilk.
Palate: Sweet peat merges with charred wood, balanced with tropical fruits. Pineapple and mango. Green chillies and ginger, with Chinese Five Spice. Muscovado sugar.
Finish: Pineapple simmers to smouldering ashes, honey and Lapsang Souchong tea.
Comment: A tug-boat washed up in the tropics. Contrast of flavours. Outrageous!

Taster Laura Foster

Nose: Breezy and zingy. Wander through groves of pink grapefruit with honeysuckle and orange blossom, eating a bag of caramel-covered almonds.
Palate: A mix of breakfasts. The flesh and oils of bitter pink and yellow grapefruit provide the foundation, before a bowl of nutty breakfast cereal.
Finish: Bitterness plays on with an added touch of beer… then again, I’m sensitive to bitters, so others might not feel it as much.
Comment: If you like grapefruits, this one’s for you.
