Tasting notes
Taster   Martine Nouet
Nose: Oaky and fruity. Cider cellar. Rich and complex. Dunnage warehouse. Stewed apples in honey. A hint of vetiver. A smoky and earthy note in the back. Oak is present but elegantly mingling with fruit.
Palate: Round and smooth. With a slight watery gap. The oak tends to mask the fruit. A festoon of gentle spices.
Finish: Smooth but a bit weak.
Comment: An old whisky, obviously, but just on the edge of losing its strength. The nose is more complex and structured than the palate.
Taster   Neil Ridley
Nose: Slightly fermented, with a natural yogurt/overripe strawberry note. A faint waft of smoke develops - very sweet and delicate. At first I wasn't convinced - then it begins to come alive.
Palate: The initial sip is very dry and slightly over-oaked. Given a second, the smoke starts to develop and the goods are revealed; soft smoke, mixed dried fruit and ginger.
Finish: Very dry, with lingering smoke.
Comment: I wonder if this is a finish that may have had a little too long in its extra oak overcoat?
