Tasting notes

Taster Christopher Coates

Nose: A basket of ripe brambles, kirsch, and dark chocolate. Espresso, fried pastry shells, cream cheese and rose nougat. Polished oak furniture, a little camphor wood, pear purée and green apple.
Palate: Medium-full. Cherry and blackberry jam, chocolate biscuits, raisins, dried figs, and prunes in syrup. The sweetness is balanced by delicate black tea tannin, subtle turmeric and slightly tart applesauce. Cinnamon and nutmeg-dusted buns.
Finish: Long, nutty. Ends on Florentines.
Comment: A proper dessert dram. What’s not to love?

Taster Bethany Whymark

Nose: Crème caramel, freshly scraped vanilla pod, clove, cassia, and grassy rye spice. Candied orange peel, overripe pear, salted sweet potato crisps, and toasty oak. Chocolate-chip brioche. Mint humbugs.
Palate: Medium bodied. Baked apples, sultanas and ground cinnamon. Caramel latte. Banana slices fried in butter. Rye bread with chocolate-hazelnut spread. Clove spice returns towards the end.
Finish: Medium-long, on demerara sugar, dark chocolate and almost mentholic clove.
Comment: Pleasingly herbaceous. Manhattans, anyone?
