Tasting notes

Taster Christopher Coates

Nose: Hot worts: barley, barley, barley. Coal dust and peat smoke. Roasting pork and baking apples. Cinnamon icing and rising sourdough. Milk chocolate, honey and prawn crackers, with a base of white chocolate (vanilla and cocoa butter).
Palate: Full and intense. Pear cordial, smoked and baked apple, liquorice, green pepper, toffee and barley bread. Spearmint and menthol.
Finish: Medium, bittersweet at first, then the smoked barley returns.
Comment: As pure an expression of an Islay distillery as I’ve ever tasted.

Taster Phoebe Calver

Nose: Intriguing mix of chewy raisin-y tobacco, almost becoming sticky toffee pudding, followed by a creamy lemon posset and a sprinkling of allspice.
Palate: A fresh and zesty orange note appears, followed by more of the chewy tobacco note, and dark dried fruits that become a fruit and nut bar bringing in some sweet nuttiness.
Finish: The dark fruit notes linger, getting a little more dry and smoky as it draws out.
Comment: Very enjoyable dark and chewy notes, giving it some real character and something fun to explore.
