Tasting notes

Taster Rob Allanson

Nose: A good amount of spice leaps out of the glass at you. A mix of cinnamon, cracked black pepper, honey and chilli flakes. There’s a floral edge, lavender and jasmine green tea. Cardamon and green chilli cookies.
Palate: Interplay of spice and sweetness. Cinnamon and vanilla buns with a ginger glaze. In time there’s a dark maple syrup and toasted hazelnut edge.
Finish: This just keeps on giving, maple syrup sweetness and slowly dries with cloves and all spice cookies.
Comment: A good rye is a wonderful thing…

Taster Christopher Coates

Nose: Brown bread and treacle, white pepper and green bell peppers. Digestive biscuit and all spice followed by cola cube and caramel. A dusty hayloft element.
Palate: Brown sugar and more cola, curry powder and cocoa, followed by filter coffee and cinnamon. Maple syrup and some white pepper in there too, but it’s restrained.
Finish: Sweet and spicy.
Comment: Great nose, but for me the palate doesn’t show the same degree of complexity.
