Tasting notes
Taster   Chris Goodrum
Nose: Balsamic, dark treacle, malt and succulent but edgy fruit, liquorice and marzipan. Herbal with time and the luscious, buttery vanillins are quite powerful. Water brings out a dusty spice.
Palate: Gently astringent, coastal and tannic with grippy, coffeed sherry notes. Moist, dried fruitcake, spice and green nuts. Dilution brings out bitterness from the oak.
Finish: Medium with the alcohol drying when neat, some lovely salt encrusted spice, coffee and marzipan linger. Lightly sooty after-taste.
Comment: A pleasant Islay. Water makes the oak a little bitter.
Taster   Charles Montanaro
Nose: Light and floral, some sweetness apparent. Beeswax, phenol and a little musty. Intriguing for sure.
Palate: Burnt fireworks, cedar, cereal, leading into a leafy powerful spice with a hint of vanilla and liquorice.
Finish: Astringent and mouth coating, opening to a cigar box finish.
Comment: Interesting and surprising to say the least. An unusual combination which I’m enjoying trying to get my head around though would happily indulge in trying to understand it further.
