Tasting notes
Taster   Chris Goodrum
Nose: Intense astringent peat, iodine soaked bandages, salt and slabs of malt. Agricole dried fruit, treacle, tar, thick cut orange rind, coffeed wood spice, medicinal herbs and violets.
Palate: Thick treacle, prunes, walnuts, liquorice and dried fruit. Medicinal, smoky with a lovely peat intensity. Neat, the sweet malt and stewed tea balance.
Finish: Long, smoky and earthy with lingering peat, treacle, winey, pruney dried fruit and medicinal notes.
Comment: Absolutely stunning. If this is the distillery I think it is, it continues to impress me with its releases.

Taster   Joel Harrison
Nose: Big, and very bold indeed, this has a great mixture of spirit and oak. It clearly isn’t old, but neither is it immature. Think dark cherry jam on toasted rye bread.
Palate: Disconcertingly drinkable at natural strength, with water this beast is tamed to reveal rich cinnamon and cardamom spice, some drying oak tones and Texan ‘burnt ends’.
Finish: Hot and spicy without water, but with a dash there is sweetness mixed with rancio notes.
Comment: A direct and robust whisky, but it is no joker. Much more Ali than Tyson Fury. Pair with a cold bottle of beer to tame.
