Tasting notes

Taster Chris Goodrum

Nose: Aromas of treacle toffee coated apple, prune, walnut, hazelnut and citrus. A corn-like note and developing chlorinated rye-like notes as well. Very clean and lightly herbal with a touch of violets and camphor.
Palate: Dates in syrup, then chewy wood tannins and herbal accented spices. Walnuts, prunes and that camphor and herbal rye-like character on the middle. Water sweetens the oak.
Finish: Good length. Very herbal and dry. Longer and sweeter with water.
Comment: Now that’s an impressive oak monster. Like a high rye content American, but I don’t think it is.

Taster Neil Ridley

Nose: A warming dry note up front; some fennel / lovage herbaceous notes, some peppery rye and ripe cherries. Tobacco notes develop with a little water.
Palate: Enormous dryness, but with that comes rich wood, tobacco, creamy ice cream and dark cherries. A touch of water helps to open up the spice and warm up the fruitiness. Superb.
Finish: Wonderfully lengthy and complex, with some incredible weight too. Spot on.
Comment: I’m keeping the rest of this sample to try it out in a Manhattan. I suspect I won’t be disappointed.
