Tasting notes
Taster   Christopher Coates
Nose: Charcoal smoke and oakwood smoked salmon, some capsicum and liquorice stick. Lingonberry sauce and a whiff of something juniper-like. Charred venison on the barbeque. With water come orange and clove.
Palate: Medium bodied. Full-on Fisherman’s Friend lozenge up front; a delightfully medicinal character. Water brings out pear drop and physalis, with a hint of cranberry. In time, a paper-like element.
Finish: Medium length. The lozenge-like character persists.
Comment: A touch hot, but water tames it.

Taster   Phoebe Calver
Nose: Sweet peat and tar, black plastic sheets. There’s also a tropical note, with mango and fresh melon sweetness, then cracked black pepper.
Palate: Earthy smoked peat is prominent, followed by sweet chilli sauce tang and heat. Resinous wood, mango chunks and fir tree, before Fisherman’s Friend aftertaste enters.
Finish: That earthy smoke lingers for a long time.
Comment: A well-considered balance between the classic Islay and sweet tropical intrigue.
