Tasting notes
Taster   Phoebe Calver
Nose: A very bright nose, full of dried fruits, including fig and raisins. There’s some nutmeg in there too, with red berry compote.
Palate: Here a little more complexity arises, with syrupy ginger cake, plum jam, fruit and nut bar and some honeycomb.
Finish: The nuttiness lingers on the finish, with some sweetness remaining.
Comment: This whisky doesn’t try to be something it’s not, which is something to be proud of.

Taster   Christopher Coates
Nose: Blackberry jam, pipe tobacco, raisins, subtle smoke, faintly petrolic, camphor and mineral oil. There’s black coffee, bergamot orange, dark chocolate and treacle, too.
Palate: Light bodied. Raspberry and blackberry coulis, subtle mint, and candied orange. Some coffee with cream, candied ginger, cinnamon and caramel, too. A distinct woodiness, but only delicate tannin.
Finish: Medium-short. The sweeter, heavier notes dissipate first, leaving the berries.
Comment: Solid showing by Switzerland.
