Tasting notes

Taster Chris Goodrum

Nose: Balsamic with fragrant heather, burnt wood, treacle and winey red cherry notes. Hints of smoke appear with some manure laced peat and salt. Now I like this! It’s got great intensity and is pretty unique!
Palate: Lightly tannic and very winey with redcurrant / berry fruit. Treacle, dark chocolate and light butyric notes follow. Chunky, earthy peat and hints of brine and burnt wood.
Finish: Long and surprisingly soft with lingering peat smoke, salt and red winey notes.
Comment: With all those red fruit notes, this tastes a lot like Longrow Red.

Taster Alwynne Gwilt

Nose: Some sweet tea notes, along with honey, baked apples and orange peel, a dash of something potentially smoky and savoury (rosemary) underneath.
Palate: Old books, red fruits, dusty cocao, yesterday’s cigarettes, brown sugar and cream. An old world, armchair kind of dram.
Finish: Nice heat at the front of the palate with baking spice notes around the sides and gums. Dark and comforting.
Comment: A classy, rich whisky that one can take one’s time with. Wouldn’t want more than one or two, as quite full-on, but attractive nonetheless.
