Tasting notes

Taster Mark Newton

Nose: Immense! Buttery, with baked pears in molasses, mingled with wonderful industrial dirtiness, coal dust and muscovado sugar. Dried fruits, sherried notes, with sandalwood.
Palate: Brilliant spirit brings intense, balanced flavours. Peaty earthiness with cloves, allspice and nutmeg. Strawberry jam, ginger biscuits, toffee fudge and crab apple jelly.
Finish: Sweet chilli, ginger and cloves goes on and on. Tobacco and black tea at the end.
Comment: Mesmerising, even by the standard of whisky coming out of Sweden.

Taster Laura Foster

Nose: A damp note reveals orange, gingerbread, sultanas, pencil shavings, before the briny sea washes in, bringing kombu seaweed and antiseptic. Sharp redcurrant and raspberries too.
Palate: Orange, dark chocolate and sweet orange flesh, copper, iodine, sea salt and seaweed, fresh baguettes with chilli flakes and Chinese five-spice.
Finish: Orangey and spicy, with a soapy texture due to the clove note.
Comment: Wears the soap. That soap diminishes a solid dram.
