Tasting notes
Taster   Neil Ridley
Nose: Camp coffee (that's the brand) liquorice root, creamy bonfire toffee and a very well cooked Tarte Tatin; all in all, superbly balanced with gargantuan flavours. Not an easy thing to do.
Palate: Big, dry flavours, but lacking any oaky kick - just swathes of spice, rich dark toffee and bitter cocoa. Once you've dialled it down a notch with water, this really shows off its star quality.
Finish: Rich, resonant caramel, liquorice and woody spice.
Comment: Supremely dark matter. Like an exhilarating run through a haunted house with your trousers on fire.
8.9
Taster   Martine Nouet
Nose: Malty and floral. Flowering ivy. Peony. Biscuity. Hazelnut biscuits. Plum jam. Multilayered. Orange marmalade. Opens up constantly.
Palate: Satin-like. Sweet at first, followed by a spicy outburst and a fizzy feel on the tongue. A real shake! And a numbing sensation.
Finish: Dry, spicy with a nutty aftertaste.
Comment: A dense and energetic profile. It would easily replace a wake up call! I need to tame it with a dash of water. But then it gets even spicier.
