Tasting notes
Taster   Chris Goodrum
Nose: Supple, deep aromas of walnuts, prunes, cold tea, orange zest, figs and sticky treacle. Balanced with citrus. Plum, black-currant, green nuts and a light wood smoke note. Water sweetens, gives a Cognac-esque character.
Palate: Soft and sherried. Treacly with prune, walnut, dried grape and sweet, edgy spice – coriander and cinnamon. Water emphasises the fruit and herbal notes.
Finish: Long and spicy. The tannins make the finish a little dry but the treacle and dried fruit offset. Lovely mocha after-taste.
Comment: Pure, clean, natural sherry character.
8.5
Taster   Sara Smith
Nose: Bright wood, raisin, plum, varnish, hazelnut, and vanilla wafer.
Palate: Strong alcohol at the beginning, with sweet, rich fruit notes quickly followed by a dry leafiness, liquorice and a hint of fennel, then a much longer, smooth note of hazelnut and other nutty, sherry flavours with just a hint of wood smoke.
Finish: Milder sherry notes, hazelnut and Brazil nut on top of richer, dark fruit notes.
Comment: If you’re a fan of the fruity, nutty notes often found in sherry, this would be a great choice, especially as an after-dinner or late-night whisky.
