Tasting notes
Taster   Mark Newton
Nose: Distant, sweet and earthy, lots of tartness. Redcurrants, mango, pineapple, but heady and dirty, with Five-spice seasoning and grouse-meat.
Palate: Cranberries and blackcurrant jam. Leathery with cigar spice. Cinnamon, yes, but also Five-spice. Elderberries, port. balsamic vinegar. A touch of woodiness holds it back.
Finish: Long, chewy, oily and dirty which balances superbly with the jammy dark fruits.
Comment: A brooding, unusual, complex dram that has a lot of character indeed.
Taster   Laura Foster
Nose: Fruity and confected up front: boiled sweets, tinned pineapple, strawberries and meringue. Then other aromas come into play, including cereal, cinnamon and iodine.
Palate: Pineapple dusted with cinnamon, soft brown sugar and freshly baked wholemeal bread is quickly overtaken by an insidiously sticky, bitter, hoppy, beery note. A plate of saucisson follows, and some chopped walnuts too.
Finish: The bitterness lingers on and on.
Comment: A lot to mull over in this unusual, expressive dram.
