The cask character somewhat dominates this zesty but delicate whisky.
Braes of Glenlivet 1985
No age statement
Nose: A Christmas stocking that contains toffees, chocolates, perfume and soap.
Palate: Very lightly syrupy. Chocolate. Soft caramel. Suggestions of Mars Bars or Rolo chocolates.
Finish: Fruity, with a touch of winey acidity.
Comment: The cask character somewhat dominates this zesty but delicate whisky.
Nose: Woody, resiny. Oak with cedar. Good variety of spices (cloves, cardamom). Fruit aromas hardly emerge, just an orangey hint.
Palate: Robust without being agressive. Sweet malty and honeyed flavours, then liquorice.
Finish: Warm and lasting. Liquorice and spices.
Comment: The Sauternes finish mellows the oak; but unsatisfying, except for fans of wood.
