I find the aroma quite sexy. The palate is big, but the finish leaves me wondering about the casks.
12 Years Old, Old Distillery Reserve
Republic of Ireland
Standard (Distillery or blended)
Nose: Creamy. Cedary. Fresh sweat. Aromatic.
Palate: Firm. Full flavours. Nutty. Very toffeeish. Apricot-like.
Finish: Spicy. Slight sulphur.
Comment: I find the aroma quite sexy. The palate is big, but the finish leaves me wondering about the casks.
Nose: Sherry so thick you can cut through it.
Palate: Gloriously fat and rich; delicious barley, intermingling with juicy plums. Big and sturdy throughout.
Finish: A peppery spice begins to formulate, as does the drier oak. But it is the softness of the grain which impresses most.
Comment: This is a great Irish whiskey where the faultless sherry is played and controlled to near perfection.
