Nose: Sweet and malty: hay, fruit salad, ripe pear, pineapple, quince, lemon, barley sugar, candy floss. Gets drier, and woodier, with time.
Palate: Silky and soft with fair balance. The sweetness goes quickly, leaving crisp malt and light spices.
Finish: Bitter orange nut.
Comment: The wood has a fair say in things, the Sauternes playing a subtle role in it all.
Score: 7.5
Taster
Nose: Coconut ice.
Palate: Sherbet. Lemonade. Becoming. Honeyish.
Finish: Rose's lime marmalade, on well-done buttered toast.
Comment: Which Sauternes? The flavours of childhood, rather than sophistication.
Score: 7.8
