Caol Ila Distillery
Youthfully powerful. Almost raw flavours, without being in any way spirity. Many Islay-lovers enjoy their whiskies young. This is a robust example.
9 Years Old
Nose: Powerful seashore aromas.
Palate: Firm, dry, salty. Olivey bitterness. Black olives.
Finish: Intensely pepper, salty. Slight iodine.
Comment: Youthfully powerful. Almost raw flavours, without being in any way spirity. Many Islay-lovers enjoy their whiskies young. This is a robust example.
Nose: Fresh and slightly green, subtle and very sweet pea. Quite oily and gristy.
Palate: Immediately sweet with a consuming and fabulously oily peatiness. Little complexity beyond peppery smoke and the youth of the malt.
Finish: Remains young and wonderfully intense with the peat clinging on as some drier oaky tones emerge.
Comment: Peatiness is unyielding and unsubtle but enormously enjoyable.
